GEEKPHILOSOPHER: Free Pictures and Images.

Geek1Greetings,

GEEKPHILOSOPHER is a web site offering free, Creative Commons pictures.

Here’s another photo site, that I just learned of. The site is called GEEKPHILOSOPHER and all the digital images are completely free for personal and commercial use. The assorted collection of web resolution free stock photos, background graphics, and desktop wallpapers can be used in web page designs, school assignments, art projects, blogs, wikis, etc.. If a photo is used on the web, the GEEKPHILOSOPHER folks would like the user to point a link back to their web site as a means of acknowledgement. That’s fair enough.

The collection is an interesting mix of common and unique. For example, there are the typical photo categories such as “Animals”, “Birds”, “Holidays”, “Nature” and “People”. As well, there are a couple of unique groupings such as “Medical and Dental” and “Butterflies and Insects”. Missing is a “Technology” category. One unusual sub-group I did discover within the “Objects” heading was a collection of American posters from the World War 1 era. These would be perfect for a history unit.

While the collection can be browsed by subject heading, there is no key word search option. The reason for that might be that the collection is not overly large.

When the desired picture is found, the user clicks on the thumbnail image to bring up the download page which contains some terms and conditions for downloading. For example, the image can not be re-distributed or used on Wikipedia.

Finally, all images are available in just one size.

Bottom line. I like GEEKPHILOSOPHER. While the image collection isn’t huge, it is unique enough that most of it’s images won’t be found on a myriad of other sites.

The site is free to use and no sign-up is required for access.
