MSE360: New Search Engine

Greetings,

MSE360 is a new search engine that combines a Wikipedia search, image search and a web search function into one search application.

MSE360 is an interesting mix of search functionality; Wikipedia, images and the web.

The search page itself is very clean and minimalist. There’s a text box to enter a search term or search string and a drop down menu to specific a country. I assume this allows the user to limit search results by country. There’s also a link to some advanced search features (just like Google) which allows searches to be narrowed further.

The search engine is still in beta and there are issues to be worked out. The developer is trying not to rely on corporate advertising and is asking for donations instead. As this is the Internet where everyone expects everything to be free, I’m not sure how successful the request for donation will be.

Some of that success will depend on how well MSE360 does as a search engine and, as a search engine it’s not bad however, the combination of Wikipedia, images and web results combined together on the results page does make for a very “busy” results page. While some folks may be okay with this, I prefer separate searches rather then everything stuffed on one page.

  • We understand some people will either love or hate how we lay out results, and we’d be silly not to expect that. I can let you in on the fact in the coming weeks we will be adding a ‘classic’ method for people who prefer separated searches, so keep an eye on for that. Donations are welcome, but we also won’t be relying on them 100%, indeed most people like everything to be free! Check back around Wednesday when the classic feature should go live! Thanks for your feedback and writing about us!
