Greetings,
CRYPTOCAT is a secure online chat service.
Today’s site – CRYPTOCAT – offers a secure online chat service. Users can create their own chat room and invite others to join. The text which users type is encrypted so that anyone “listening” or snooping on the Internet can’t decipher what’s been entered. The encryption is not CIA quality as the site creators admit but, it should be good enough to thwart most snoops and hackers. After 30 minutes of inactivity, the whole chat conversation is securely wiped from the CRYPTOCAT server.
Using CRYPTOCAT is very easy. Access the site home page and enter a name for the chat room. This is the name that is send to other so they can join. Next, enter a user name. That’s it. The chat room is created and ready to go.

Bottom line? I like CRYPTOCAT. It’s easy to set-up and use however it does beg the question, “Who still uses chat? It’s old technology.” That may be true but, situations may arise when synchronous communications are needed and one or more of the participants has no microphone or speakers connected to their computer. Chat may be the only option. The secure feature is a nice bonus.
The site is free to use and sign-up is required.
