Greetings,
AFTER THE DEADLINE is a free web service for checking grammar, style and spelling.
There was a time, many years ago when programs like “Grammatik” were all the rage. Those programs would analyse a piece of writing and make suggestions about proper grammar use and style improvements. These days, much of that functionality has been incorporated into word processing programs like Microsoft Word. Nevertheless, there are still times when I wish I had a quick and simple way to style check a piece or writing. Now I do with today’s offering called, AFTER THE DEADLINE.
Using this service involves accessing the site’s home page entering some content (by typing or copying & pasting) into a large text box and clicking the “Check Writing” button at the bottom of the page. “Problems” are underlined in various colours. Green indicates a grammar recommendation, blue means a style suggestion and red highlights a spelling mistake. This is what it looks like when the above paragraph was analysed.

Bottom line? I like AFTER THE DEADLINE. It’s easy to use and works pretty well. While I may take exception to some of it’s grammar and style suggestions, that’s still preferable to missing a faux-pas entirely.
AFTER THE DEADLINE can also be installed on WordPress and Buddypress, as an add-on for Firefox and Chrome and on OpenOffice.
The service (and add-ons) is free to use and no account is required.
