GROUP MAKER: Free, Online, Random Group Creator

Group logoGreetings,

GROUP MAKER is a free web app that will randomly select students to be members of a group.

Today’s app is one of several apps offered on the SuperTeacherTools web site. This site has a number of interesting tools which I hope to sample in the days and weeks ahead but today, my first choice is GROUP MAKER. This app will take a class list and randomly assign students to groups.

Like most single purpose apps, this one is very easy to use. In fact, the hardest part is typing in student names. Unfortunately, there’s no way that I could find to upload a class list on a spreadsheet or text file. This info has to be entered by hand. The SuperTeacherTools site provides a class list form to enter student names on then saves the information as a text file which can be used with GROUP MAKER and several other SuperTeacherTools apps so, a little bit of pain can be worth a lot of gain.

Once completed, it’s short work activating GROUP MAKER. Simply attach SuperTeacherTools class list, indicate how many students the groups are to contain and in no time, GROUP MAKER returns with a web page listing a series of groups, each containing the specified number of student names.

Bottom line? I suspect that most teachers are more then capable of creating student groups without the use of GROUP MAKER but, it is fun to use and perfect for those teachers who are still tentative about using technology. This is something they can grasp and see a use for, immediately.

The app is free to use and no registration is required.
