CLIPGENERATOR is a free, online, video clip presentation tool that’s a lot of fun to use.I like easy! Perhaps it’s the advanced years or the countless hours spent learning programs like ClarisWorks or Wordperfect but (IMHO) learning to use a new program should not be the digital equivalent of climbing Mount Everest. That’s why I like CLIPGENERATOR. It’s easy.
CLIPGENERATOR is a tool that is used to combine pictures with music to create an animated video clip.
The creation process has three simple steps. Step one involves choosing the music for the video clip. Unfortunately, only songs on the CLIPGENERATOR site can be used but, there are lots available from a number of different categories such as Classic, Dance, Love, New, Pop, etc.
Step two is adding pictures which can come from the computer desktop or an online photo site like Flickr, Picasa, Smugmug or Photobucket. Text can also be added to the pictures.
Step three is, click the “Create” button.
Once the video has been created, CLIPGENERATOR provides several ways to share including links, email notifications, and connections to Facebook and Myspace. It can even be embedded in a web page, like this.
It took me just a few minutes to create the above video clip. The hardest part was picking a music track.
Bottom line? I like this tool. It’s fun, easy to use and may have a use in a classroom setting. As far as I can determine, there is no “public” area on this site. Only those who are sent a link to a video clip can actually view the clip (unless it’s embedded in a web page). Students posting video creations would have some measure of privacy.
The site is also free to use and no sign-up is required. That’s the good news. Unfortunate, once a clip is created, it can not be added to or edited. In addition, I have no idea how long the clips remain on line.
