SCRIBLINK is a free web based sharable whiteboard.
I think most online BC educators are familiar with a program called Elluminate or v-Class available through the Virtual School Society. ELLuminate provides, shared white boarding, audio conferencing, and other tools to allow users to collaborate and interact in real time, online.
SCRIBLINK does much the same thing. For example, it offers a shared whiteboard, chat function, audio conferencing, image uploading and file transfer. It has similar draw and mark-up tools.
There are however a few differences. For example, SCRIBLINK has a built in math equation editor and a grid feature which can be overlaid on top of a picture or image.
As well, SCRIBLINK is free to use. Anyone can log on and begin using a whiteboard. No user ID or password is required. Other participants can invited by e-mail or by other social media such as Twitter when the URL is included in the message.
Audio conferencing is accomplished via VOIP although if VOIP is not possible, users can dial a number with a standard phone and get connected.
SCRIBLINK does not have the ability to record sessions but screen shots of individual whiteboard screens can be saved, printed or e-mail to others.
This app also lacks the moderator control features so useful in Elluminate and it also lacks the ability to show and take control of a users desktop.
Nevertheless, SCRIBLINK is a very full featured collaborative app, considering it is free to use, has no limits as to the number that can connect and does not require an account to access.
