Greetings,
The blog site, “Open Culture” recently published a list of approximately 100 (with conditions) free online/downloadable films.
These films are described as classics, international, film noir, documentaries, indie films, etc. There are definitely some of the those such the Russian epic, “Battleship Potemkin”, the American epic of about the same period, “Birth a Nation” as well as the Christmas Classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life” with Jimmy Stewart.
In addition there are a number of period films by famous directors such as John Huston, Alfred Hitchcock and Francis Ford Coppola and famous actors such as Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper and Bette Davis.
The collect also includes a respectable number of European and World films, many that have been rescued and restored by Martin Scorcese.
While most titles are 40 years old or more, there are some newer offerings including, “Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas” (1998) Starring Johnny Depp, Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” (1992) directed by Francis Ford Coppola and, “Lost in Translation” (2003) with Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray.
Unfortunately, many of the films are not accessible to anyone out side the US.
Just as impressive as the film list is the list of internet locations offering free and viewable film content.
For teachers looking for video content to enhance and improve their online curriculum, this is a very good start point.
