LEARNCENTRAL is a free, web service for teacher collaboration.
Think of a Facebook – Elluminate mash-up and you have a pretty good mental image of LEARNCENTRAL. While Facebook may be familiar, Elluminate may not. It’s a synchronous, audio conferencing, teaching environment similar to “Horizon Wimba” and “Go To Meeting”. That gives LEARNCENTRAL both a real time synchronous, collaborative component along with a more traditional, Facebook like, asynchronous aspect, with a “wall”, comment area and a friends or Network section. Elluminate is also one of the site sponsors which may explain the very polished look and feel to the site. LEARNCENTRAL was not created off the side of anyones desk.
According to spokesman, Steve Hargadon, LEARNCENTRAL is the next “big thing” in social networking and collaboration. Perhaps it is.
